In early December, Northpoint was approached to provide a coating solution for a special bend pipework destined for the Allt Eilidh Hydro-Glen Hydro Scheme in Scotland. Renewables First designed the concept of the fitting, this was then Priced by UTS Engineering Ltd who produced fabrication drawings for approval prior to manufacture.

Due to the complex shape of the fabrication, 813 x 600nb x 600nb special bend, Northpoint’s experienced team decided the best solution would be to apply the Resi-coat R4 Aqua Green in the fluidized bed and then decoratively over coated the pipework to match the Turbine inlet pipework.

Coating Solution

The mild steel pipe was blasted to Sa2.5 and then preheated and dipped in the fluidized bed in Resicoat R4 Aqua Green internally and externally. An additional coat of EN545 Blue was electrostatically sprayed externally to the fitting to achieve the blue colour requested by the customer. The min spec for this coating was 350 microns and 666 microns minimum was achieved.

Application

This fabrication transitions the pipeline on the hydro scheme into a single run. It is a 700Kw hydropower turbine inlet transition piece and swap reception piece, designed by Renewables First for Glen Creran Hydropower, Appin, Scotland.
