Street Furniture Coatings
Galvanized and carbon steel components can be coated in polyester powder colour coating or alternatively carbon steel products can be colour coated in PPA571 thermoplastic. PPA571 is a 'warm to touch' alternative to polyester. Although the colour range is less extensive, PPA571 is particularly useful where access handrails or seating are required in coated form.
Typical applications for polyester powder coating include signage steelwork, entrance features, bridge parapet steelwork, architectural steelwork features and highway acoustic barrier fence posts.
Street Furniture is available in a wide range of colours.
PPA571 in Construction Projects
PPA571 has been used on major projects around the world where highly durable, long lasting and resilient finishes are the criteria from the specifying architect - along with of course, the requirement for superior corrosion protection for the metal. PPA571 has high levels of durability and weatherabilty and long-term adhesion to both steel and aluminium.
Normal expectations of a 10 year life expectancy are easily surpassed by PPA571, indeed in many aggressive environments PPA571 has demonstrated that it has close to full gloss retention, colour stability and mechanical properties retained as new even after 7 years.
12-year test proves PPA571 is ideal for harsh environments
Claims made for the long-term adhesion, UV and salt spray resistance of PPA571 coatings have been upheld in the toughest of 12-year tests in Spain.
12th anniversary checks on the supports and tubular structures of the Pasarela Peolonal de Angora, a 25-metre footbridge over a railway in the Northern coastal town of San Sebastian, Spain demonstrated that the PPA571 coating was still in 'perfect condition'. The coated steelwork of the bridge showed no signs of under-film corrosion or blistering.
The Northern Spanish experience supports earlier performance data from sites around the world, including the harsh environments of the Arizona desert. Here the PPA571 coating overcame the problem of leakage of sulphuric acid and chlorides in the pipeline as well as external environmental extremes including temperatures in excess of 40Oc.
PPA571 Coating Longevity
PPA571 is a thermoplastic powder coating developed specially to achieve long-term adhesion to both mild steel and aluminium substrates without the need for an adhesive primer. It is especially recommended for excellent resistance to ultraviolet light, salt spray and atmospheric pollutants.
Since PPA571 was developed it has been subjected to testing demonstrating that it meets:
- ASTM B117 salt spray resistance
- ASTM G53-77 quv resistance
- Florida site exposure at 45O towards the south
- BS EN 1722 pt 16 compliant
The results of these tests give Plascote; the PPA571 powder manufacturer, the confidence to say that PPA571 coatings will continue to protect metal in rural, urban, industrial, marine and costal environments with outside exposure for a minimum of 30 years in Northern Europe, 20 years in Southern Europe and at least 10 years in more tropical areas.
