Pipe Coating

Fusion Bonded Epoxy Pipe Coatings

Northpoint have serviced the fusion bonded epoxy coating requirements of the Water Supply and Treatment, Offshore and Gas & Oil pipeline industry since the 1980's. 3M Scotchkote 206N is the preferred coating option for theses sectors and holds a comprehensive range of approvals combined with a world wide track record.

As the Uk's largest independent Scotchkote 206N applicator Northpoint services the requirements of pipe fabricators throughout the UK. Pipe up to 6.0m in length 2.5m diameter and 3200kg can be coated internally and externally by fluidised bed application.

Typical applications are carbon steel fabricated pipefittings, submersible pump risers, fire hydrants, static mixers, structural steelwork and reinforcement steel. Scotchkote is a primary corrosion protection system offering exceptional protection.Additional colour coating can be added to external surface areas where colour coding or UV screening is required.

Application is fast track and work can be processed in as little as 6 hours, resulting in the ability to offer a premier corrosion protection system where emergency work is undertaken.

Technical Specifications

Internal & External Degrease, abrasive blast clean to Swedish Standard SA 2.5 profile to be 40-100 microns, preheat and apply by fluidised bed technique Scotchkote 206N Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating to a minimum thickness of 300 microns, inspect as required, colour Blue-Green.

Masking requirements must be specified at time of quotation and clearly marked on incoming orders and advice notes. All surfaces will be coated unless details are received in writing.

Scotchkote 206N is WIS 4-52-01 BSI KITEMARK LICENCE No KM 33446 & DWI approved and meets the requirements of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 1989, Regulation 25 (BS 6920: pt I: 1996) for use as a coating in contact with potable water and is listed under the materials section part two of the water fittings and materials directory ref: 0005504. Northpoint is listed as an approved regulation 31(a) FBE applicator on the DWI web site.

FABRICATION REQUIREMENTS

Lifting lugs will be required for plain ended pipes in excess of 1000 mm dia to facilitate fluidised bed process. These should be affixed 100-150 mm from the end about the centre line.

Remove all sharp edges and burrs. Bolt holes should allow additional 2mm clearance for coating. Welds should be smooth and free from spatters, undercutting, porosity and excessive high spots or bead. Seamless tube should be free from slivers. Heavily corroded steel is generally unsuitable for coating, due to pitting and surface salts. Mill varnish or paints should be avoided.

Areas requiring masking should be clearly marked on drawings and orders.
