FAQs; Pipe Coating & Fence Coating

Below is a list of frequently asked questions relating to our pipe coating and fence coating facilities.

What are the plant limitations?

Northpoint process orders both large and small however, each product category has certain limitations. For pipe coating the Hoist Lifting Weight is 3000 Kg maximum. NB Items up to 6000 mm long can be coated, provided they can be dipped from both ends. The Fluid Bed Depth – 3000 mm and Fluid Bed Opening (On Plan) – 3000 x 3000 mm. For more information please contact our technical team.

For fence coating the limitations are related to size; anything up to 11000 x 3000 mm can typically be accommodated.

What is the turnaround time?

Each order we process differs from the next. Turnaround can fluctuate depending on the size, specification and complexity of the order. Generally, most of our orders are processed within a week or a few days for smaller orders. We aim to have most orders complete within 7 days. For more information please contact us.

Do you deliver?

Yes both nationally and internationally. Our Transport Service can deliver to mainland UK subject to agreement. Any deliveries to EU are by courier service.

Is there a guarantee?

At Northpoint we strive for 100% customer satisfaction; that’s why we offer a standard 10 year coating life expectancy on our fence coatings and can offer warranties where necessary by prior agreement. The Akzo Nobel Interpon D range has up to a 30 year warranty (all subject to terms and conditions) for colour and gloss.  Life expectancy of the coating is influenced by the location and maintenance of the coating.

Pipe coatings don’t carry an explicit warranty but FBE coatings have been applied and are still in service in some parts of the world with over 40 years service life.

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is a type of dry coating, which is applied in the form of a dry powder. The main difference between powder coating and standard liquid paint is that the powder coating does not need a solvent to keep the binder, fillers, pigments, extenders and resin in a liquid form. This leads to a more environmentally friendly process of both fence and pipe coating.

How is the coating environmentally friendly?

Powder coatings emit virtually no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and therefore have a significantly reduced impact on the environment. Any ‘over-spray’ from powder coating can be recycled, producing less waste and making the process more cost-effective. Powder coating production lines produce less hazardous waste than standard liquid coatings and have a significantly thicker coating film.

Can I get my parts coated in different colours?

In short, Yes.

Fence coatings come in either Green RAL 6005 or Black RAL 9005 as standard. There are also 38 other standard stock colours see http://www.northpointcoatings.co.uk/colours/ for more details.  We can also apply any number of other colours from the BS 4200 range of colours, all you have to do is ask.

Pipe Coating tends to be one colour only; Resicote comes in an aqua-blue/green, blue and red colousr.  The red and blue both being applied typically over ductile iron pipe fittings. Of course if you require another colour say poppy red for example then we can apply this as an exterior finish over the Resicote aqua-blue/green finish. We are often asked to do this for fire suppressant pipework for oil and gas installation.
